The Cobalt Stitch is a contemporary textile art studio founded in 2025 using stitches as a creative tool and exploring embroidery, quilting and appliqué.
The main theme is the celebration of life in natural and human forms. I create work to celebrate how precious life is. There are millions of phenomena which bring new life, and I think that people often forget how incredible their creation and existence really is. I am interested in all stages of life from start to the end, with my current projects focusing on buds and seeds, where new energy is contained, grows and bursts into new life.
I mainly use hand stitch as it slows everything down and provides more control in the making process. Stitching gives me so much joy and calmness and repetitive movement is a form of meditation for me. I use natural fabrics to feel their warmth and comfort and to connect to the materials and processes which have been passed down through generations. Ancient skills and materials are alive with the quiet individual stories of our ancestors and my work looks to recognise these in the modern era.
