Julian Churcher | Studio 244

Afternoons spent painting with friends in a former museum were a highlight of my teenage school years. From then until 2018 I only sketched or painted occasionally and briefly, when inspired by the colours and light of the changing seasons, a viewed exhibition, a family holiday, or a daughter’s school art project.

A week’s residential course in Cornwall with landscape painter Ray Balkwill reminded me of the struggle and satisfaction of this craft, and since 2018 I've worked from a studio here, painting in oils - mainly landscapes of places visited around the British Isles and abroad on holidays or visits to family, and more recently portraits and floral pieces.
