Afternoons spent oil-painting with friends in a former museum were a highlight of my school years. Since then I’ve only sketched or painted occasionally and briefly, when inspired by the colours and light of the changing seasons, a viewed exhibition, a family holiday, or a daughter’s Art project.

A week’s residential course in Cornwall in the Autumn of 2010 with landscape painter Ray Balkwill reminded me of the struggle and the satisfaction of this craft.

I draw with charcoal and pastels, but preferentially paint in oils - mainly landscapes and portraits.
