Gina McSweeney trained in Fine Art at Winchester School of Art and Leeds University before working as a mural artist both in London and Hong Kong. Throughout she has continued to produce her own paintings.
In all of Gina’s work is a preoccupation with light and form. Her work explores familiar landscapes be it the changing seasons on Wimbledon Common or South Devon where she has visited every year since she was a child. She tries to capture the ‘feeling’ of a particular moment through the light be it the low winter sun, candlelight or the light filtering through trees.
In her most recent series Gina has painted a series of paintings of lightbulbs. Intrigued by the warmth and atmosphere created by the vintage style LED bulbs she has studied shop fronts and electrical shops isolating the light source and attempting to capture the rich glow.
