Local artist Derek Telfer has developed his unique art style over the last 6 years and has taken a fascination for traditional Asian art, specifically Japanese woodblock prints and Chinese silk embroidery, and now creates painted carvings on reclaimed wood, often in the style of Master artists like Hokusai (The Great Wave) and Hiroshige.
Following a recent commission, he has produced a range of pieces celebrating the Golden Age of Art Deco and 1920’s Jazz clubs.
Further to his wall art, he creates abstract and contemporary figurative wood sculptures, organic and inspired by forms found in nature.
Derek’s tools of the trade consist of a pencil, a Dremel power tool to carve the image, and angle-grinder for the sculptures, and then finally, specialist wood paints and beeswax.
