In this captivating workshop, you will learn the intricate techniques and secrets of the fascinating world of horology. Discover firsthand what it takes to be a professional watchmaker and dive into the art of watchmaking.

Throughout the class, you will gain invaluable knowledge of the inner workings of a timepiece and master the delicate skill of using watchmaker’s tools. Gain a deep understanding of the craftsmanship involved in creating a watch as you embark on an extraordinary journey guided by Jon, an experienced professional watchmaker.

With years of experience teaching students’ watchmaking, Jon will lead you through the process of completely disassembling a watch movement and then reassembling it. Detailed PowerPoint presentations and videos will aid your learning, ensuring you grasp the intricacies of this timeless craft.

You will be working on a copy of a Swiss pocket watch developed in the 1940s and widely used in modern-day wristwatches.

The ST36 is a very big watch movement, which helps when using tweezers, fine screwdrivers, and a loupe, which magnifies the work, especially for those using these tools for the first time. There are also high-powered stereo microscopes on each workbench to help with seeing and understanding the micro world of watchmaking.

No need to worry if you're new to watchmaking! This workshop is designed to alleviate any fears and cater to beginners. You'll be working with state-of-the-art equipment and height-adjustable workbenches, and Jon will be there every step of the way to offer guidance, making the experience enjoyable and enriching.

At the end of the workshop, you'll leave with newfound knowledge and a sense of accomplishment. This unique experience offers a transformative journey into the world of horology, allowing you to indulge in your passion for watches and gain hands-on experience in this timeless craft.

Whether you're a complete novice, an enthusiast, or have always wanted to learn how to make your own watch, this workshop is the perfect activity to nurture your curiosity and expand your horizons.

This is an amazing opportunity to experience what a watchmaker does every day in a small class of up to six students.

Tea, coffee and a glass of beer or wine is provided. Please bring a packed lunch.
