Overview

Art fairs are a fantastic opportunity to showcase and sell your work directly to collectors. You know everything there is to know about your pieces and process and can share the stories and inspirations better than anyone. Yet this knowledge can make it hard to be objective and it’s a skill to choose what to share to connect with different buyers. Claudia Kennaugh, founder of Art & People, is hosting an interactive workshop to guide you through the fundamentals of selling your own work at art fairs and open studios. You’ll explore how to curate a relevant collection, implement authentic sales techniques and maximise leads.

The intimate group of 10 artists will be invited to bring 2 pieces of work for reference during the session. Artists can volunteer to engage in role play to practice presenting and selling their work in context. Join your peers and explore in a held environment so you can feel more confident to represent yourself at upcoming events.

Facilitator Bio

Claudia Kennaugh is the founder of Art & People, a Bristol-based art advisory service offering guidance to artists and collectors. Established in 2019 in response to her 15 years working as a performing artist turned gallery partner, she brings her dual experience to help people navigate the world of art. Whilst co-running The Hollywood Road Gallery, London, she sourced works from the UK, Europe & South America to curate annual exhibitions and fairs, whilst helping collectors to find, frame and hang art in their homes. Today Art & People hosts pop-up exhibitions. Notably the annual open call collection, Precious Postcards, which features original works by mostly unrepresented artists and raises funds for the FoodCycle charity. Claudia brings her expertise as an art advisor and curator to embolden artists with professional development support via one-to-one sessions, online tutorials and interactive group workshops. By partnering with organisations and studios such as Bow Arts Trust, Spike Island and Wimbledon Art Studios, Claudia helps to foster thriving artist communities. Claudia has been on the judging panel of the Jackson’s Painting Prize and became an artist mentor on the BBC One TV programme Make it at Market Series II.

‘‘ Artists are often on the back foot due to a lack of knowledge and support. I want to help change that.’’ - Claudia Kennaugh

Art & People

Art & People founder, Claudia Kennaugh, has worked in the arts for over 15 years. First as a musician and performing artist, then gallery manager, art advisor and partner of the Hollywood Road Gallery, London. Claudia has nurtured the careers of many artists over the years, curated countless fairs & exhibitions and helped many collectors to buy, frame and hang art in their homes. Her keen curatorial eye is eagerly sought after and in Spring 2022, she was on the judging panel of Jackson’s Painting Prize.

Since the launch of Art & People in 2019, Claudia has supported the professional development of artists all over the UK, as well as in Europe and North America with one-to-one guidance, workshops and online tutorials. In partnership with organisations such as Bow Arts Trust, Wimbledon Studios, Visual Artists South West and Spike Island, Claudia delivers workshops and talks to help to support and foster thriving artist communities.

Her empathetic understanding of what it takes to live off your art and inside knowledge of the industry are a rare combination. By guiding artists and collectors simultaneously, Claudia is able to create new connections and opportunities, bringing it all full circle.
