Haydn has in recent years returned to his love of drawing and painting growing up in the wilds of Wales. For the last few years he has been inspired by the teaching of Gavin Maughfling at the Putney School of Art and Design.
He works mainly in oil and mixed media and is fascinated by the collision of materials and the edge between the figurative and abstract. His architecture training helps bring order to what is a constant ambition to allow a freedom in paint handling.
In the 1990s Haydn had the opportunity, as art director of a City of London development, to work with such luminaries as Howard Hodgkin, Sol LeWitt, Anish Kapoor and Richard Serra.
Current inspiration comes from the likes of Richard Diebenkorn, Frank Auerbach and Lee Krasner.
