Andrew Horrod is a painter working mainly with watercolour, acrylic on canvas and chalk pastel. Direct observation is an essential starting point for his work and he draws and paints in front of the subject as much as possible. Whatever the situation and medium, Andrew's style is fairly loose and this seems to help with capturing movement when required.
Andrew enjoys tackling the contrasts and complexities found in urban scenes. Occasionally his pictures include a contemporary take on a familiar scene, his home city of London providing much inspiration. However, Andrew has worked further afield and he welcomes commission enquiries relating to the themes featured here and on his own website.
His loose figurative style also seems to go hand in hand with working on location, often time limited as it is, and Andrew enjoys taking part in en plein air events. A list of exhibitions and events he has taken part in, and prizes he has won, can be found on his website.
