NICOLA PENNY | STUDIO 249

Nicola’s ceramics are very much influenced by her background in graphic design, often having a fairly minimalist aesthetic. She mainly works with black and white porcelain and bone china as she enjoys the purity and depth of black and white that they allow her to achieve. Nicola draws inspiration from many areas, including a love of food and art. She’s very interested in exploring ideas around fragility and things that are broken - and the celebration of those imperfections.

An element of humour and playfulness is also an important part of her design and creative process. Nicola’s aim is to work towards achieving her own version of 'perfect imperfection', whether the finished piece is functional or decorative, hand-built or individually slipcast.
