Debra trained as a fine artist and with a background in theatrical scenery and has 20 years experience creating unique feature walls, magical staging, props and displays as well as styling and teaching. She runs workshops and an art tour to India.

The core of my work is an obsession with colour relationships drawing, collage and a passion for the unexpected. My inspirations are global but my cultural roots stem from London where I never tire of what the city has to offer. I am fascinated by folklore, Islamic textiles, nature and travel, with a particular infatuation for India and its gem-like palaces and walls; faded with time, where decay reveals torn images and multi layered fragments of history, the age, decay and patina.

I start with my sketchbook, and use it as inspiration, recreating the fresh marks, revealing rich layers. I experiment inks, dyes, pastels, oils, fabrics, and textures of plaster and dyed sewn fabric, using a collaging process, then rubbing, scratching, sticking and drawing into it as I go. Pattern, texture, colour and structure emerge organically.

Colour is always the focal point, but there is more than meets the eye; a continual narrative and ever-changing journey always in progress. Anything I find that I love, I use to collage or draw, taking the viewer into the exotic, vibrant world of my memories and experiences.
