Trained at Wimbledon School of Art, Hazel has exhibited in London, Glasgow and Toronto. Winner of the prestigious BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year (British Mammals) award, her paintings have been reproduced in ‘Artists and Illustrators’ and ‘BBC Wildlife Magazine’.
The earliest stages of each work involve field sketching, referring to museum specimens and studying anatomy. The animal’s final depiction is intended to embody specific issues that occupy and interest the artist.
“I am always exploring the shifting relationships between us and them, humans and animals. The creature’s pose, its occupancy of space within the panel, is all about earth’s jigsaw… can we all fit in.
