Elena’s paintings capture the essence of different moments in daily life. She works from photographs, which she reinterprets to create bold, yet reflective representations, animated with colour and character. The Spanish artist finds inspiration in her surroundings as well as in Old Master painters and contemporary artists. The subject matter of her paintings revolves around nature and its relation to people and vice versa. She’s interested in making poetic imagery with emphasis in the use of colour and light. Elena’s paintings have a stillness and a strange quality of silence, as if we are seeing the last moment of ones life before something dramatic happens to change things forever. The drama is heighted by the extraordinary detail.
