Annabel graduated in 1993 from Central Saint Martins with a 1st class BA hons in Illustration, however completed her degree doing automated 3D tin pieces.

Work experience in theatre departments followed, which led to storyboarding for film and being on set, where she became interested in prosthetic make-up application. Annabel became part of the principal make-up department with designer Jenny Shircore, working on major film productions, she also worked at the Royal Opera House. Annabel still creates theatre sets for Children’s productions.

Annabel returned to drawing and painting after starting a family. Her work is very much influenced by the love of drawing, however she feels mainly at ease working from figures and faces, this is no doubt influenced by her time in film and theatre.

Recently Annabel has created piece using hand painted Japanese rice paper as collage material, it allows her to use block colour and occasionally a minimal ink line to really simplify the form of the figure. The work is produced from her life drawings with the aim to break away from a literal and traditional representation of the figure or portrait.
