After graduating in the Creative Photography in the 1970s at London College of Printing (now London College of Communication) I worked as a professional photographer throughout the 1980s. I began painting outdoors in the landscape of Provence in 1990 and continue to paint there every year. I have attended several short courses at St Martins School of Art and UCA Farnham, including etching, printmaking, contemporary drawing and painting, as well as life drawing classes over a period of several years. In 2007 I became a part time artist and have been full time since 2011.
I am inspired by many things I find in the environment around me, and love the immediacy of painting what is in front of me. Working on paper enables me to paint at speed, usually to the accompaniment of contemporary dance music, which encourages intuitive and expressive results. More recently I have returned to oil painting in the studio, a much slower, thought provoking process, taking drawings and paintings made on site as well as my own memories as the start point for a more abstract approach to creating images.
My work is in private collections in the UK and overseas.
